While not absolutely required, a power inverter is necessary if you want to have 220 or 230 volts AC power. Without an inverter, you will solely rely on battery power, which may be acceptable for small RVs or cabins but not for using normal AC appliances.
The voltage refers to the input voltage from the battery bank. Higher voltages allow for less current, enabling the use of smaller wires between the solar panel array and battery bank. It's important to ensure that the solar panels, inverter, and battery bank all use the same voltage.
