Pure sine wave output inverters provide power that is as good as the public power grid, if not better. Modified sine wave output, on the other hand, can negatively impact appliances and cannot load inductive loads such as air conditioners and refrigerators. While not absolutely required, a power inverter is necessary if you want to have 220 or 230 volts AC and use normal AC appliances. Without a power inverter, you will solely rely on battery power, which may be acceptable in a small RV or cabin.
